Tennessee Vols HC Josh Heupel reveals his savage approach to parenting
Saul Young/News Sentinel / USA TODAY NETWORK

In a world where dads are signing up left and right to coach travel baseball teams so their kid can play shortstop and hit third in the lineup, Tennessee Vols head coach Josh Heupel is taking the opposite approach.

Heupel revealed his savage approach to parenting during a recent sit down interview with former Vols quarterback Josh Dobbs on the TPL Tennessee platform.

And according to Heupel, it's a "sore spot" with his wife.

Heupel told Dobbs that he never ever lets his son, Jace, win...at anything.

"Compete with him every time I get a chance," said Heupel. "Never give him an inch and make sure he's got to earn a victory....never let him win -- that's a sore spot with my wife. That's bragging rights forever if they get a dub on you."

Not only is Heupel's son getting a lesson in competing from his national championship-winning dad, but he's also getting to see how college athletes prepare up close (and even joining in on some practices).

"We get to training camp, he's here in the building with us, sitting in the quarterback room with the guys," added Heupel. "He played hooky the other day. It's 9:00 AM on a Tuesday morning, he's at practice and doing some drills with the quarterbacks. It's fun to see him out there."

I hate to tell Heupel, but it probably won't be long until Jace is owning him on the football field, basketball court, and any other competitive arena.

And who knows, maybe Jace will be playing for his dad at Tennessee one day. If that's the case, he'll be a better player because of the lessons he learned from his dad.
